Based on my grasp of the term emerging technology, my assertion towards this term or concept is as follows:
Dr. Elliott Soloway’s message explains emerging technology in respect of emergent technology (“crossing the chasm”), by which he asserts that various technologies emerge when they move into a vale of consumer uncertainty inhabited by a myriad of personalities ranging from early adopters to laggards. As a result, the innovations that rise out of the vale are the emergent ones that travel in the direction of or on to critical mass. On another front, Thornburg (2009a; 2009b) distinguishes varying definitions and a dissimilarity of “emerging” and “emergent” technologies. From his perspective, the bulk of emerging educational technologies (that are new to everyone) are originated from “wild cards” which cultivate from unexpected variables that support the provisional emergence of technologies moving to acceptance.
For Rogers (2003) a technology is deemed emergent when it is accepted by the community which uses it or sees it as an improvement. Based on my comprehension of the term emerging technology, my assertion towards this term or concept suggest that I agree with Rogers (2003) due to the fact his definition is directly tied into the people who are going to benefit from the technology. From my years of experience, innovations are nice and most definitely needed but when you have a community that is excited about it, you have that “buy in” and adoption that really takes a technology to the next level. Change is difficult, but when a community embraces it, things can become really special. Mac Ipads (Air) have become the latest and greatest means to deliver instruction and link the instructor and students in an educational realm that can expand with the traditional parameters of teaching and learning.

As for sharing the knowledge I have gained utilizing an emerging technology, I have often influenced others by cross curriculum implementation of a technology I use. Due to the amount of “evidence and artifacts” needed for our instructor evaluations, many educators have embraced the technology I use because it supplies them with the results they need to obtain positive evaluations. Thankfully, this what the school and county administrators are looking for in our instruction so getting colleagues on board is not that much of a challenge right now. Of course this is not always done without resistance but in the long run, instructors adapt to the changes and eventually find some value in the new applications. On a personal note, the implementation of emerging technologies (I recommend) is significant due to the fact the majority of the applications and devices we are adopting in the educational field evolve around media, streaming and areas that relate to audio/video technology and film. Today’s learners are geared towards and excited about using multimedia to learn so allows me to really show how my area of expertise is relevant to all disciplines not just making movies and television programs.
