Slowly but surely, small scale and in some cases larger budget productions, educational environments and corporate solutions are now being transformed through the use of a device as simply as an iPad Air2. As many of you are aware, video production is divided into phases that have critical steps that must be executed to complete a video package. These steps are in the pre-production, production and post-productions phases. Well, with our obsolete technology (Panasonic DVC20p) only one phase could be performed and that was the production/ filming stage. With this in mind, iPad Air2 has emerged as a solution that is capable of carrying on tasks from a myriad of production perspectives.
Thornburg so eloquently stated, “The constantly changing landscape of educational technology can be thought of as a series of transitions from older tools to newer ones – although some of the newer tools had their genesis years ago and are just now coming into mainstream awareness” (Thornburg, D. D, 2009a). Bearing this in mind, the greatest challenges associated with this technology are making it available to all students within our district. In addition to this, my district (Fulton County Board of Education) has been in a contract with Dell (Microsoft) therefore they have been prohibited from using Apple products. Therefore, the instructors who use Apple products are not supported for maintenance, repairs and other service needs.
Mac Ipads (Air) have become the latest and greatest means to deliver instruction and link the instructor and students in an educational realm that can expand with the traditional parameters of teaching and learning. The educational landscape is transforming and media driven methods of instruction are currently the most impactful method of delivering the curriculum to our students. It allows learners to become actively engaged in their learning. This benefits all involved!

This technology would be even better if we can responsibly find a method to make this technology available to all learners without appearing to be reckless with this endeavor. With my years of experience in public education, I’m not confident this could be achieved without a monumental waste of tax dollars.
